Position: Planner I
Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Attendance at evening meetings of the Town Council, Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), and Planning Commission is required.
Position Overview
The Planner I position plays a vital role in supporting the Town’s planning and zoning operations. This position assists with development review, ordinance enforcement, and public engagement while helping guide orderly growth and land use within the community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Process and route minor planning and development applications
Respond to routine public inquiries regarding zoning and land use regulations
Take the lead on code enforcement issues
Support senior planners in the review and coordination of complex land use proposals
Serve as backup to the Planning Commission Secretary
Prepare staff reports, maps, and related documentation
Present land development proposals to the Planning Commission, Town Council, and Board of Zoning Appeals
Communicate effectively with Metro departments, development professionals, engineers, and citizens
This position involves professional-level responsibilities requiring sound judgment, along with some routine administrative duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Zoning Law, Zoning Administration, Planning, or a related field
One (1) year of experience in code enforcement
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience
